The national government appointed new local authorities to the Board of Directors and the Board of Administration of the Binational Yacyretá Entity (EBY) after accepting a series of resignations, through Decree 15/2026 published this Wednesday in the Official Gazette. The administration of Javier Milei is advancing changes in the Argentine representatives who make up the administrative body of the hydroelectric plant. In the first instance, it accepted the resignation of Alfonso Peña from the position of Executive Director, a post to which he had been appointed in February 2024. Despite leaving his position, Peña will not leave the organization, but will move to a place as Counselor as of January 12, "to complete a legal period that expires on March 31, 2027," according to the regulations analyzed by the Argentine News Agency. In the place left vacant, Diego Luis Adúriz will take over, who until last week was serving as a counselor. Since February of last year, he was part of the Hydroelectric Plant's Board of Administration and will now be in charge until January 2031. At that time, President Milei formed the team of four country representatives in the entity's Board of Administration with Ana Clara Almirón; Facundo Palma and Rodrigo de Arrechea, who still continue in their functions. At the same time, the bachelor in Public Relations Manuel Ignacio Chavarría Bertolami was appointed as a counselor as of January 12, 2026, "for a legal period that expires on August 31, 2026." To explain the changes implemented, the Executive branch indicated that "due to the resignations presented, and with the aim of guaranteeing the normal functioning of the body, it is necessary to accept those resignations and proceed to the appointment of the authorities of the Binational Yacyretá Entity." The new appointments were made in accordance with the Yacyretá Treaty, signed between Argentina and Paraguay in 1973, and in compliance with the regulations that govern the integration and functioning of the Board of Administration and the Executive Committee of the entity.
